In vivo optical imaging of photoreceptors’ response to light stimulation

The talk introduces optoretinography as an objective, non-contact optical method for measuring photoreceptor activity. Unlike psychophysical tests, it does not rely on a subject’s answers, and unlike electrophysiology, it does not require electrodes. The seminar will explain how optical imaging can help assess retinal function in vivo after light stimulation.

About the speaker

Sławomir Tomczewski earned his MSc and PhD degrees from the Warsaw University of Technology. After his PhD, he worked in industry as a software engineer at GE Aviation and as a holographic system engineer at the UK start-up Envisics. In 2019 he joined the Physical Optics and Biophotonics Group. His work focuses on photoreceptor function, optoretinography and data-processing algorithms for two-photon excited fluorescence scanning laser ophthalmoscopy.
