AI-Enhanced Surgical Simulators for Human and Machine Learning

  • Speaker: Dr. Przemysław Korzeniowski

The seminar presents VR surgical simulators as safe, configurable tools for training humans and generating synthetic datasets for machine learning. It covers AI-enhanced pipelines, including SimuSCope for realistic image-to-image translation and FF-SRL for faster reinforcement learning in robotic surgery. The talk will include live demonstrations of prototype simulators with high-fidelity force feedback for cataract surgery and laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

About the speaker

Dr Przemysław Korzeniowski is a medical-technology innovator with experience in academia, industry and entrepreneurship. After an MSc in computing from Imperial College London, he earned a PhD focused on VR surgical simulation that connects engineering and clinical practice. He later developed DelKit, a commercial surgical-simulation framework licensed to global medical companies, including Alcon. At Sano he leads the VR/Robotics Lab and the Healthcare Informatics group, supervising PhD students and postdocs in VR/AR simulation, AI and robotics.
