W fototransdukcji wzrokowej szereg z\u0142o\u017conych reakcji prowadzi do percepcji przez m\u00f3zg bod\u017aca poprzez kaskad\u0119 sygna\u0142\u00f3w, kt\u00f3ra ostatecznie obni\u017ca poziom wewn\u0105trzkom\u00f3rkowego cGMP, kt\u00f3ry jest p\u00f3\u017aniej uzupe\u0142niany. Seria reakcji enzymatycznych i transport przez r\u00f3\u017cne kom\u00f3rki przywraca w cyklu wzrokowym 11-cis-retinal z jego formy all-trans. W ten spos\u00f3b fotoreceptory natychmiast reaguj\u0105, aby przywr\u00f3ci\u0107 stan opsyny z chromoforem siatk\u00f3wkowym 11-cis retinal i homeostaz\u0105 kom\u00f3rkow\u0105, umo\u017cliwiaj\u0105c otrzymanie nowego bod\u017aca.<br>Wiele z zaanga\u017cowanych w proces widzenia bia\u0142ek jest zwi\u0105zanych z chorobami wzroku i same w sobie s\u0105 potencjalnymi celami lek\u00f3w. Niekt\u00f3re z tych bia\u0142ek mog\u0105 by\u0107 badane w terapii celowanej.
