Investigating the fundamental principles and clinical translation of optoretinography

Optoretinography (ORG) is a research area in which noninvasive, optical techniques are explored for measuring deformations in retinal neurons caused by light stimuli and signal transduction. Jts first successes fifteen years ago have spawned a variety of implementations including common-path interferometry with adaptive optics (AO); full-field (FF) swept-source (SS) OCT with digital aberration correction; scanning AO-OCT; and AO-FF-SS-OCT. In this talk, I will first give an overview of previous work done in our lab, using scanning AO-OCT and AO-FF-SS-OCT, and then describe our current efforts to develop a proto-clinical ORG system-capable of acquiring ORG measurements robustly and quickly and providing rapid feedback to clinicians. The system is constructed with relatively Inexpensive parts, and illustrates how ORG measurements could be integrated into typical commercial OCT systems
