The seminar compares contrast sensitivity in one-photon and two-photon vision. Two-photon vision is based on pulsed near-infrared light and may be useful in augmented-reality displays because it separates the wavelength of added content from the real-world scene. The study introduces two-photon retinal illuminance and shows that two-photon stimuli can offer higher contrast, especially at low and medium spatial frequencies, while remaining within safe illumination levels.
About the speaker
Oliwia Kaczkoś is an optometrist who graduated with a master’s degree in optometry from the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw. Since October 2022 she has been pursuing doctoral studies at the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School of the University of Warsaw. As a PhD student in ICTER’s Physical Optics and Biophotonics Group, she studies the phenomenon of two-photon vision.
